You talk about rape too much.

They tell me I talk about rape too much but…

I will never forget what happened that night.

My body won’t let me.

My mind won’t let me.

If I’m not allowed to forget then you aren’t either.

I will scream about it at the top of my lungs.

I will write about it til the day I die.

I was not the first and I know I won’t be the last.

So hear my story.

Soak it in.

Let it consume you as it has consumed me.

Never forget that next time it could be you.

…how can I not be afraid?

My thoughts on rapists.

Rapists are not bound by any specific gender, sexuality, race, religion, age, or ability status.

Rapists come in all shapes and sizes.

Rapists come from all walks of life.

Anyone can be a rapist.

It can be someone you know.

Your best friend.

Your professor.

Your coworker.

It can be someone you don’t know.

A waiter.

The bank teller.

Someone on the bus.

A rapist will rape regardless of who they are, what they look like, and what they do for a living.

Until our society comes to terms with this, we will not be able to begin to dismantle the rape culture we live in.
